Project Overview

Project Overview

Project Overview

A responsive travel planning app that helps users organize multi-destination trips by coordinating transportation, accommodations, and activities in one place

The Problem

Planning trips across multiple destinations is often chaotic and time consuming. Users are forced to switch between several disconnected tools - from booking platforms to notes and calendars - making it difficult to stay organized and adapt to changes while traveling

The Goal

Design an all-in-one travel planning experience that simplifies the process, supports real-time updates, and provides users with a clear, editable itinerary tailored to their needs and travel style

Understanding The User

Understanding The User

Understanding The User

To better understand the needs, goals, and behaviors of potential users, I created two detailed personas. These personas -Julia, a solo traveler balancing work and leisure, and Samir, a family-focused teacher - represent key user groups with different travel planning challenges and expectations

The empathy map helped synthesize insights from research and visualize what users think, feel, see, and say during the travel planning process. By identifying patterns in pain points and needs, the map guided early design decisions and kept the user’s perspective central throughout the project

Research & Insights

Research & Insights

Research & Insights

To better understand the landscape of travel planning tools, I conducted a competitive audit of four platforms: Google Travel, TripIt, Rome2Rio, and Sygic Travel. The audit focused on product features, usability, mobile experience, and visual design. Rather than comparing each detail, I extracted the most important insights that influenced my design direction

Key Insights

Most competitors require users to switch between multiple tools or apps to plan a complete trip - few offer a true all-in-one solution

None of the platforms allow easy, flexible multi-destination itinerary editing with visual drag-and-drop functionality

Accessibility features and onboarding support are minimal or inconsistent across mobile apps

Visual design varies widely - some apps feel modern and intuitive, while others are outdated or cluttered

Collaboration or group trip planning is largely unsupported, even though it's a common use case for families or friend groups

Storyboards

Scenario: Julia is planning a multi-destination trip for remote work and leisure, but she's frustrated with juggling multiple tools and apps. She finds a travel planning app that helps her organize everything in one place.

Wireframes

Before moving into high-fidelity designs, I created wireframes to explore layout possibilities and ensure clear information architecture. These early sketches helped test navigation flows and prioritize content based on user goals

Low Fidility Prototype

To validate the structure and user flows of the app, I created a low-fidelity prototype based on the wireframes. This early version focused on layout, functionality, and user interaction without the distraction of visual styling

Reflection

Reflection

This project pushed me to think more holistically about how people plan complex trips and how easily stress can build up when tools aren't unified. One key learning was the importance of designing with clarity and simplicity in mind - especially when users are managing many details at once. If I were to continue the project, I would explore features that support real-time collaboration and shared planning. Overall, this case study helped me grow in both user empathy and cross-platform design thinking
